Military Grade Encryption - Don’t Forget About Flash Drives

Remember when flash drives first came out? It was a genuine revolution. However, flash drives seem to have become the 21st century equivalent of key chains. When you are working a trade show, there’s a good chance that you have seen baskets of flash drives that are given out as promotional gifts. However, with a capacity of around 32MB, these drives are not good for much. That does not mean that all flash drives are equally useless, though.

Modern flash drives have higher capacities, some upward of 32GB, which is more than enough to hold the most elaborate presentations with room to spare. And if you are concerned about security, there are many flash drives that offer military-grade encryption so that no one but you can access the information contained within. These security-minded flash drives will even “self-destruct” if too many unsuccessful attempts to access the information are made, erasing the information and making the drive useless.

Wireless Connectivity for Presentations

If you are giving a computer-based presentation, a traditional wired keyboard and mouse aren’t going to work. After all, you need to be mobile. You can use a remote control that allows you to move the cursor and click, but they can be unreliable and difficult to operate. Besides, they don’t allow for last minute changes to be made on the fly. The best option for these presentations is a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Some people are hesitant to use these tools because of bad experiences had with the early models. However, today’s wireless connectivity devices are Bluetooth enabled, meaning that line of sight to the USB sensor does not need to be maintained. The current generation of wireless devices is more reliable, more versatile, and more professional than previous versions. By using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you will not fall victim to the foibles of high-tech presentations.

High-Tech Father’s Day Gift

June 21 is the day that we take special care to show our father’s how much we appreciate all that they have done and continue to do for us. And what is the most popular way to express our boundless gratitude? A tie that will probably never be worn. Why not get Dad something that is cool and useful for Father’s Day this year? There are all sorts of tech goodies out there that trump a tie every time.

However, even if you have decided to get your father a high-tech toy, you still need to make a few decisions. Is your dad a workaholic? Maybe he would benefit from a smart phone with a built-in PDA. Is he the mobile type? Perhaps a netbook will serve his needs best. Or, if he’s like a lot of dads, his laptop is in need of updating. If this is the case, a new computer will be the way to go.

BenQ Joybe GP1 - Making Projector Portability a No Brainer

One of the most common occurrences in the business word is the presentation. If you work in an office, chances are that you sit through at least one a week. The biggest problem with presentations, besides the time they consume and the boring graphics, is often in the setting up of equipment. Large and heavy projectors are usually lugged into a meeting room for the event and then broken down shortly thereafter. However, BenQ has introduced the Joybe GP1, which goes a long way to correcting the portability problem.

While the GP1 is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, it has sufficient resolution to display graphics, photos, and videos large enough and clear enough to make a presentation to a few hundred people. While it will not be enough to fill the screen of a large auditorium, it will work nicely for the average office meeting or small trade show presentation.

Timbuk2 Hacker Daypack

One of the most important accessories for a laptop computer is a laptop case or bag.  Once upon a time, the only bags available looked like the stogy briefcases that our parents carried.  However, these bags don’t appeal to most modern computer users.  Most people today are interested in expressing their individualism, not necessarily their professionalism.  Backpacks and messenger bags are now the carrying cases of choice.  And now you don’t necessarily have to choose between the two.

Timbuk2, a San Francisco-based manufacturer of bags designed for use by bike messengers has created the perfect answer to the backpack/messenger bag question – the Hacker Daypack.  With backpack straps and a padded shoulder strap, the Hacker can be used as either a backpack or a messenger bag.  This versatility allows the bag to be used in almost any situation.  It is designed to carry up to a 15” laptop and has enough compartmentalization to replace your father’s briefcase.  And it looks cooler, too.
